Thursday, 26 November 2009

Pat Cash with young peopleFormer Wimbledon men’s singles champion Pat Cash led a Sky Sports Living for Sport tennis masterclass today at the O2 Arena for young people from The Norwood School in South London, which currently runs our Sky Sports Living for Sport programme.

The young people went through tennis basics on The O2 practice court and their class was overseen by Pat Cash and former British tennis player and Sky Sports commentator Barry Cowan. The veteran English and Australian athletes then joined forces to share their experiences in a Q&A session with the youngsters who learnt new skills and discovered the enjoyment of taking part in sport.

Pat said:
“It was great to get on-court and help some of the young people on the Sky Sports Living for Sport scheme to learn new tennis skills. It’s a really positive initiative which motivates and inspires thousands of young people through sport. I was helped by a variety of people throughout my career and fully appreciate how beneficial mentoring and sport can be for young people.”

Sky Sports Living for Sport, available to all secondary schools in the UK, uses sport to motivate and inspire 11 to 16 year olds to excel. The free initiative was created by the Youth Sport Trust in partnership with Sky.
