Olympians hand out school prizes
Kelly Holmes, Duncan Goodhew and Australia's Brennon Dowrick presented awards to the winners at the 2006 School Sport Partnerships' Conference.
A total of 12 schools were recognised for their achievements over the past year.
National School Sport Champion Dame Kelly Holmes said the work the School Sport Partnerships are doing is essential for helping young people further their education.
“I would like to offer a huge congratulations to everyone involved in School Sport Partnerships (SSPs) for getting their awards,” she said.
“Sport is so important in helping young people learn and develop and SSPs are leading the way in helping us create healthy, active and happy youngsters - and maybe even a few future Olympians.”
Youth Sport Trust chief executive Steve Grainger lauded the success of schools and clubs in providing opportunities for young people to learn and develop through sport.
“I and everyone at the Youth Sport Trust are delighted School Sport Partnerships has helped us use the power of sport has to inspire young people to achieve their best in life,” Grainger said.
“School Sport Partnerships are continually creating new and exciting ways of using PE and school sport to engage young people and help them develop the all-important life skills for a healthy and happy future.”
The Youth Sport Trust Development Awards highlight the work of more than 400 School Sport Partnerships across the country and were a highlight on the opening day.
The conference at the Telford International Centre yook place on 15 and 16 November.
The accolades were first awarded in 2004 and highlight those partnerships really making a difference.
