Four young volunteers at the Step into Sport Camp in Loughborough have the unique role of capturing the four-day event on film in their roles as media volunteers. Each day during the camp, the foursome will share their experiences, the ups and downs and their behind the scenes view on proceedings via this blog.
Day three
Issy – The day began with a yummy Full-English breakfast to wake us up from the previous night’s quiz which we are still celebrating. After breakfast we went to the morning briefing where we talked in our small groups about the importance of the three C’s – courage, compassion and communication. This was a great opportunity to meet new young leaders from other teams and build the confidence to talk to groups and publically. I could see the effect these sessions have on the young leaders and their personal journey.
Kia – On the third day of camp, we went around different activities. The highlight of my day has definitely been filming the wheelchair basketball. It’s a sport I wasn’t too aware of until today. I was so impressed with the amount of teamwork that was happening in the session. Everyone helping each other and sharing their skills. All that is down to this week
Adam – Today were the sessions for the young leaders to gain coaching qualifications. They could choose from a large variety of sports. I will be reporting on the fencing and netball (Kia will focus on two others). The fencing was awesome as the professionals were so attacking in their fencing style as the young leaders looked on in astonishment. The netball was funny to watch as most of the young leaders had played before but had to change their views – old habits die hard I suppose! Today was great with loads of different sports and the young leaders really coming out of their shells.
Joe – We viewed a brief edit of our final cut for the video – so far so good. We discussed songs that we could potentially use and eventually chose the two we wanted. We are pleased with how it’s going at the moment and with today’s footage, we are sure our final DVD is going to look great. Will have to wait ‘til tomorrow to see.
