Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week kicks off

Monday, 29 June 2009

Lloyds TSB National School Sport WeekPupils in Leytonstone, London are today meeting Olympians Jason Gardener and Mark Foster as they celebrate the start of Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week.

Children from the Leystonstone School Sport Partnership are hosting two multi-sport events entitled ‘Our Games’. Pupils are creating their own Olympic opening and closing ceremonies and each child will describe what the Olympics means to them through a ‘my Olympic dream, my London 2012’ initiative.

Natalie Fitzgerald, Partnership Development Manager, said:

“Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week is a great way of engaging the pupils here in Leytonstone with sport. Being a London 2012 borough means it is important for us to engage our children with the Olympic and Paralympic Games... I hope Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week will enable us to use London 2012 to increase enthusiasm for sport both in and out of school amongst pupils and parents.”

Elsewhere Youth Sport Trust School Sport Ambassador Sascha Kindred is at Corpus Christie Sports College in Preston where a giant wake-up and shake-up event with 100,000 pupils from across Lancashire is taking place.

Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week, which runs until Friday 3 July, is inspiring millions of young people in schools across the country to take part in more sport. Over 10,400 schools and School Sport Partnerships across Britain are participating. The initiative supports the Government’s PE and Sport Strategy for Young People.

Our other School Sport Ambassadors Denise Lewis, Joe Glanfield and Gail Emms will follow Jason and Sascha this week and visit schools participating in Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week. We’ll be keeping you informed of the major developments each day, so be sure to have a look.
