Dreams + Teams “first” in Azerbaijan

Tuesday, 15 April 2008

Azerbaijan studentsAzerbaijan hosted its first Dreams + Teams leadership training course as part of the International Inspiration programme.

Led by Jo Buchanan-Smith, one of Youth Sport Trust’s international trainers, teachers from schools in Baku, Lankaran and Ganja learnt how to support and encourage leadership skills in their young people.

At the end of the two week course the Young Leaders co-ordinated a festival for local primary school children, which was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, the Academy of PE and Sport as well as the local press.

Comments such as “It has been a good journey” and “there is a deep need for such trainings. It would be great if we had more and more similar programs”, reflected the positive impact of the initiative and the enthusiasm for the future.

The International Inspiration programme is helping deliver promises made by the London 2012 bid to change the lives of the world’s young people through sport.

Earlier this year, the programme saw an international PE and school sport seminar taking place in Brazil.

Seminar delegates, including representatives from the Youth Sport Trust, discussed a range of issues, particularly the development of a shared vision of how PE and sport can be used to engage, enrich and empower young people’s lives and raise whole school standards.
