Get involved in the Olympic countdown
Monday, 2 November 2009
The Youth Sport Trust has revamped its 2012: Inspiring School Sport website to coincide with the start of the 1000 day countdown to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
If you’re a teacher you could use this countdown as a hook for learning and an opportunity to introduce the Olympic and Paralympic Values to your pupils. Our 2012: Inspiring School Sport website is the best resource for doing this. Whether your pupils are dreaming of competing in London 2012 or wanting to embrace the spirit, excitement and culture of the Games, then you’ll find content on this website to inspire them such as videos, images, lesson plans and projects.
We’ll soon have ideas of how other schools have used 2012 to inspire their students so keep checking the website. Learn more about the Young Ambassadors programme, which champions sport and promotes the ethos of the Games, and Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week, which uses the 2012 Games to motivate pupils.
Furthermore the London 2012 education programme Get Set (the Youth Sport Trust is responsible for the PE and sport strand of this programme) has launched a set of new resources to help you and your students make the most of this countdown moment. The secondary pack includes a range of resources which use the Games and the Values to help students consider their aspirations and what it takes to achieve them. For primary aged students, the resources are designed to add value to numeracy lessons.
If you would like to show your commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values, you can apply to be part of the Get Set network which gives you access to the unique London 2012 education logo. The first 20 schools to join the network were announced last month - six of which were Sports Colleges.
