The annual Innovation Awards recognise new and exciting ideas being developed by Sports Colleges and Academies with sport-related specialisms across the country with the aim of enhancing the delivery of PE and school sport.
Sports Colleges are able to apply for a range of categories focusing on different areas of innovation and share their ideas across the network. This year there were 10 categories of award, focusing on different areas of innovation, each with a supporting partner and a fantastic prize.
The winners were announced at the Sports Colleges Conference gala dinner on 31st January 2008.
The winners were as follows:
- The Sport Relief Award - rising to the challenge
Winning school: Chesterfield High School, Sefton
- The PGL Award for using the specialism to ensure that Every Child Matters
Winning school: George Pindar Community Sports College, North Yorkshire
- The Arsenal Award for linking sport and language learning
Winning school: Lymm High Voluntary Controlled School, Warrington
- The Sky Video Award: the power of sport – a fresh perspective on PE and school sport
Winning school: The Coseley School, Dudley
- The British Council Award for using sport to improve inter-cultural dialogue
Winning school: Tong School, Bradford
- The Sainsbury’s Award for health improvement in your school
Winning school: Marriotts School, Hertfordshire
- The SkillsActive Award for the innovative delivery of a 14-19 curriculum in Sport and Leisure
Winning school: Biddick School Sports College, Sunderland
- The Norwich Union National School Sport Champion Award for high quality PE
Winning school: St Edmund's Church of England Girls' School and Sports College, Wiltshire
- The Minister for Sport Award for communication
Winning school: Wilmslow High School, Cheshire
