- A world-class system of competitive sport for young people
- Transformation of the content, structure and presentation of competitive opportunities for young people of school age
- A heightened profile for school sport and, specifically, competitive opportunities
Work is already underway to develop a single competitive framework for each sport that includes competitions in schools and clubs. The challenge is to deliver high quality pathways which will leave a lasting legacy up to and beyond the 2012 Olympics.
Making it happen
The Competition Manager infrastructure is currently being implemented, within School Sport Partnerships, across the 49 county areas in England and by January 2009 every county area will have a team of Competition Managers in place. Competition Managers are an integral part of the network in raising the quality and quantity of competitive opportunities for all young people in line with the National Governing Bodies’ Competition Frameworks. Competition Managers are working closely with National Governing Bodies, schools associations and other partners at county level to to ensure the alignment of the network and the priorities identified within each sport, in order to increase the number of young people engaged in regular competitive opportunities. Ultimately we are working towards the creation of long term systemic change in the format and structure of competitive sport with national competitive structures being established to deliver clear consistent and progressive competitive opportunities for all young people.
