Sir John Beckwith CBE
Founder and President
Motivated by a passionate belief that all young people benefit from taking part in sport, Sir John created the Youth Sport Trust in 1994. Trained as a Chartered Accountant, at aged 24 Sir John formed London and Edinburgh Trust, a property development company which became one of the top ten property companies in the UK and one of the leading international real estate companies. Since 1993, he has chaired a privately owned and diverse international asset management group, specialising in the management of private equity investments, real estate, traditional and alternative investment funds. As well as the Youth Sport Trust, Sir John has actively supported a wide range of charities and community projects. He was awarded a knighthood in 2000 for services to youth sport. |

Duncan Goodhew MBE
Vice President
Duncan is Vice President of the Youth Sport Trust and helped to create the organisation in 1994. Duncan won a Gold medal for 100m breast-stroke and Bronze medal for the 4 x 100m medley relay in the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. Since retiring from competitive swimming he has been involved with various charities. He is President of Swimathon, whose swimmers have raised over £30 million for charity and is Vice President of Dyslexia Action and Chairman of the Millfield Foundation. Duncan has extensive and diverse business interests and also fronts many media and promotional campaigns. Currently, his company Limelight Projects is the UK’s leading mass participation sports marketing agency. Duncan is also a Director of Premier Sport. |

Baroness Sue Campbell CBE
Chair
Sue has been with the Youth Sport Trust from the start, first as Chief Executive until 2005 and since as Chair. Sue is a former junior international pentathlete and netball player. She has represented her country as a player, a coach and a team manager. She trained as a physical education teacher, taught in Manchester and lectured at Leicester and Loughborough Universities. Before joining the Youth Sport Trust, she was Chief Executive of the National Coaching Foundation (now Sportscoach UK) for 11 years. Among many honours, Sue has received six honorary doctorates, the most recent of which was awarded by Leeds University in 2006. In June 2003, Sue was awarded a Commander of the British Empire for her services to sport. Sue is also Chair of UK Sport. |

Steve Grainger MBE
Chief Executive
Steve was one of the first members of staff to join the Youth Sport Trust as Development Director and he became Chief Executive in 2005. He was heavily involved in the design and development of the National PE, School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL) Strategy and is working closely with government departments to develop the strategy for delivery of the five-hour sport offer for young people. Steve is a regular speaker at conferences in the UK and has been responsible for developing the Trust’s work overseas. In 2006 he was made a Member of the British Empire in recognition of his services to school sport. Steve has always worked in sport. Prior to the Youth Sport Trust he was involved in sports development at a local, county and national level. |

Chris Grant
Chris is Managing Director of 14A Ltd. His primary activities are in the fields of governance, group facilitation, mediation and change. He is Vice-Chair of the Board of International Inspiration, the London 2012 Programme, which is engaging and empowering millions of children in 20 countries, and is a Member of the Commission on the Future of Women’s Sport. Chris chaired the £1.1 billion Chip and PIN Programme, successfully introducing new card payments technologies across the UK. He has served as moderator of events such as the inaugural World Cities Forum, the NHS’s Medical Directors’ Conference, The Pacific Coast Builder’s Conference and as a facilitator on leadership development programmes for organisations including the BBC, DSG International and General Motors. Chris has recently facilitated strategy and planning events at Board / Senior Management level for the UK Payments Council, Coca Cola, Ernst & Young, UK Sport, AXA Insurance and The Royal College of Radiologists. |

David Johnson
David Johnson's career has spanned over 40 years in education, starting as a mathematics teacher in Nottingham in one of the first comprehensive schools in the country. He was soon asked to become co-author of the schools’ Mathematics Project. He has worked in senior management in three different schools for a total of 36 years. David was headteacher at Failsworth School Specialist Sports College in Oldham for 19 years. He had the opportunity to combine his love of education and sport when Failsworth became a Specialist Sports College in 2000. He was first introduced to the Youth Sport Trust in 1998 when preparing the bid for Failsworth School and has since delivered keynote speeches on his work and supported other Sports Colleges throughout the country. David is currently a leadership coach with the NCSL programme Future Leaders. He was appointed to our Board of Directors in January 2004. |
