Youth Sport Trust welcomes Game of Life Report
The Youth Sport Trust has today welcomed the launch of a report from the Sport and Recreation Alliance. The report, entitled 'Game of Life - How Sport and Recreation can make us Healthier, Happier and Richer', explores how sport and physical activity can help improve health, enhance educational attainment and bring communities closer together.
The evidence contained in the report serves to highlight the power of sport as a public policy tool and shows its potential to help Government tackle issues including obesity and antisocial behaviour. Crucially, the report also looks into the importance of PE and sport in aiding the physical, mental and social development of children and young people. It calls for all young people to be involved in sport, and argues that Government should focus on getting young children physically active.
Phil Chamberlain, Policy and Communications Director at the Youth Sport Trust said:
"The 'Game of Life'report illustrates the wide-ranging contribution that sport makes to society. At the Youth Sport Trust we use to sport to change the lives of young people for the better. Our programmes increase educational attainment, improve behaviour and help young people to lead healthy, active lives.
"In particular, we welcome the report's recommendations on getting young children physically active - the Youth Sport Trust believes that Government should focus on ensuring primary school children are taught fundamental physical literacy skills in order to build a lifetime of participation in sport."
