Darren Campbell inspires pupils at Durham college

Sprint legend Darren Campbell, met pupils from Durham Community Business College, in his role as Ambassador for Sky Sports Living for Sport. The programme is a free secondary schools initiative delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, which uses sport stars and sport skills to improve the lives of thousands of young people across the UK.

The College won the special visit from Darren after entering a competition run by Sky Sports Living for Sport earlier this year.  During his day long visit, Darren met sports leaders at the College who are involved in its latest Sky Sports Living for Sport project.  Darren observed as the leaders directed children from a local primary school in an athletics event, providing advice and support to the students leading the activity.

Addressing the entire College at a special assembly, Darren shared his journey from his school days in Manchester to international sporting success, including the challenges he overcame to win Olympic Gold and earn him his reputation as one of Britain's most successful sprinters.

Meeting students who recently took part in the College's Sky Sports Living for Sport project, Darren also heard how the initiative has helped the students develop life skills and overcome challenges by harnessing the power of sport.

"I've really enjoyed meeting students from Durham Community Business College and hearing about what they've learnt and continue to learn through the Sky Sports Living for Sport initiative.

"It's been great to share my story of sporting success with the students and show them just how far commitment and dedication can take them in life. I hope my visit will inspire them all to get more involved in sport and strive for success."
