British Judo star Euan Burton inspires pupils in visit to Calderglen High School in Glasgow

Euan Burton, British Judo star and Sky Sports Scholar, paid a visit to Calderglen High School in Glasgow today.

Euan visited Calderglen High School on behalf of Sky Sports Living for Sport, a free secondary schools initiative delivered in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, which uses sport stars and sport skills to improve the lives of thousands of young people across the UK.

Meeting students who recently took part in the school's Sky Sports Living for Sport project, Euan heard how the initiative helped the students to develop life skills and overcome challenges by harnessing the power of sport.

Commenting on his visit Euan said: "Visiting the students at Calderglen High School was a fantastic experience. It's obvious the students have been inspired by their involvement in Sky Sports Living for Sport, and it's good to see that the school is really focussed on improving pupils' lives through sport.

"I really enjoyed meeting all the pupils and hope my story of sporting success has inspired them to strive to achieve their best in all areas of life."

Pupils from Calderglen High School were selected by their teacher to take part in Sky Sports Living for Sport and under the guidance of their Sky Sports Living for Sport Athlete Mentor; they are learning new skills both on and off the playing field to improve their lives. These include Sky Sports Living for Sports' Six Keys to Success which are mental toughness, hunger to achieve, people skills, sports and life knowledge, breaking barriers and planning for success.

Euan Burton, who took up Judo after his grandparents took him to a local club, has been at the top of his sport for a decade. He gained his black belt by the age of 16 and has since gone on to win three European Championship and two World Championship bronze medals, as well as gold at two of the four Grand Slams in Tokyo and Moscow.
