Olympic Legacy about more than bricks and mortar

Youth Sport Trust Chief Executive Officer John Steele has today highlighted the need to invest in young people if an Olympic legacy is to truly be delivered.

As Team GB continues to inspire the nation through an amazing medal haul, young people up and down the country are seeing the powerful and positive role that sport can play. We are now in a critical phase and need to capture the enthusiasm young people have for sport and ensure they have every opportunity to take part themselves.

John Steele, Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Sport Trust said:

"Following the hugely successful and inspirational Games we are witnessing we now find ourselves at a crossroads. One route would be to follow what many previous host nations have done and base their legacy plans around bricks and mortar, but at the Youth Sport Trust we believe the right choice is the harder option, which is to invest in young people ­­- especially at primary school age.

"If we are really serious about building on the 'inspiring a generation' vision, then we should look to invest in teachers, school sport professionals and young leaders, who will turn an inspired generation into a active generation for life."
