London 2012 legacy debate continues

As the Olympic Games continue to captivate the nation the debate is continuing on how to maximise the legacy of the Games once the Olympics are over.

Today the Prime Minister has been speaking about the need for "a big cultural change" towards sport in schools in Britain.

Commenting on the Prime Minister's statement on school sport, John Steele, Chief Executive of the Youth Sport Trust, said "I am delighted that the Prime Minister has recognised that the legacy from the Olympic and Paralympic Games should focus on school sport. 

"There is some fantastic work going on in schools to deliver sport from some very dedicated staff. What many of these passionate people lack is simply the time and resource to deliver PE and sport as they know it can be. This is what they crave as they know that much more can be done in schools to improve the delivery of sport.

"Where the Youth Sport Trust feel a difference can be made, is upping the scale of this commitment so that a potential of a national legacy from the Games can be delivered.  This will realise the promise to inspire a generation and create an active generation."
