Major conference showcases school sport

The Youth Sport Trust has showcased two of its cutting edge projects at the International Convention on Science, Education and Medicine in Sport.

The Conference is the leading sport, exercise and medicine conference in the world and takes place every 4 years. Dr Jeanne Keay and Dr Mike Jess presented on the background research that underpinned the Bupa Start to Move programme, which currently works to support teachers in improving the quality of PE received by 4-7 year olds in primary schools.

Two other presentations showcased schools that have worked with Olympians to use the power of sport to inspire young people, and how it connected to other subjects including art, music and science.

Guin Batten, who leads the Youth Sport Research and Innovation projects at the Trust, said: "To be at the conference highlights the growing interest in physical education. It is really exciting to see the drive to connect the work of teachers on the ground with robust research, bringing the power of our academic community to tackle some of the real issues head teachers, practitioners and parents are facing today."
