Bupa Start to Move
Bupa Start to Move: developing physical literacy is an innovative approach to professional development in PE for teachers of 4-7 year olds, and provides children with the foundations for successful participation in PE and sport.
Following extensive research into global best practice, the Youth Sport Trust, in partnership with Bupa, has developed training, web resources and local 'peer' mentor support to increase confidence and skill in teaching Key Stage 1 PE. This training will support Key Stage 1 teachers in planning and preparing for the new National Curriculum for PE.
Bupa Start to Move aims to:
- equip teachers with the techniques and confidence to teach core movement skills;
- give children the movement skills, enthusiasm and confidence to begin lifelong participation in physical activity and sport; and
- support learning in PE in ways similar to other subjects i.e. helping children to learn the ABCs of movement.
Bupa Start to Move provides free long term support which starts with local training delivered by experienced national trainers, followed by ongoing support from local educational specialists. Once teachers have completed the training, they are given access to the Start to Move website, which holds a wealth of resources, including research and training films.
