Sporting Chance

We work to ensure all young people have a sporting chance by developing opportunities for those with special educational needs and disabilities.

We create innovative and exciting ways to engage and inspire all young people, regardless of their age or ability, so they have the chance to take part in high quality physical education and meaningful school sport and enjoy being active.

We develop activities that use innovative approaches to educational and sporting strategies to include young disabled people in PE and school sport. On the ground we work with a range of people who positively influence a young disabled child's experience of physical education and school sport, namely teaching practitioners, coaches and volunteers.

The School Games has a significant focus on increasing sporting opportunities for young people with disabilities and allowing young people with disabilities far greater access to compete alongside their peers and non-disabled young people.

Project Ability - a strand of work within the School Games - aims to improve, increase and extend the provision for young people with special educational needs and disabilities to take part in competitive sport.

Through our national network of fifty Youth Sport Trust Inclusion Partner Schools, we deliver Project Ability which offers bespoke training and local advice and guidance to School Games Organisers. This will encourage greater participation by young people with special educational needs and disabilities and create pathways for them to continue into school-club activities and, for the most talented, into high level competition.

This year's Step into Sport Camp, which involves a mixture of able bodied and disabled young people, provides an opportunity for them to develop their skills and become leaders in a variety of roles in mainstream and inclusive sports.

Our Membership scheme also provides opportunities for practitioners to be at the cutting edge of work with young people with special educational and sporting needs by offering professional development and other activities led by YST Partner Schools with excellent practice in this area.
